| Gammelnok | Old Nordic meaning 'Old Enough' | The main character of this story, and the owner of his own Web Site. |
| GreyFace | A specifically numbered Grey Squirrel. | As they all look the same, they refer to each other by number. |
| Handsack | Smaller than a rucksack, but roomier. | A rucksack would not be practical, as it would drag along the ground. Nissers have short legs. |
| Herr ZigZag | Also known as The Great Controller | A sinister character obsessed with control, regulations and bureaucracy. |
| Houle | A type of cave or hiding place. | Mr P likes to build himself a Houle underneath the duvet in the bedroom, |

| NisseHat | Headgear worn by Nissers | As its very cold in winter, Nissers have to wear large red hats to keep warm. |
| Nisser | A kind of Elv or Pixie | Nissers make presents for Father Christmas throughout the year. These presents are then given to children on Christmas Eve. |
| Numbers | Another name for Squirrels or GreyFaces | As they all look the same, they refer to each other by number. |

| Ugle | Old Nordic meaning 'Owl' | Ugle is in fact an Owl, and lives in the woods above and behind StepSixtySix. |
| White Moon | A Full Moon | Normally the animals get together for a party or Fest when there is a White Moon. |
